Apartments and strata. Cremorne is apartment-heavy, and that changes the job. Shared bin rooms, bins used by dozens of households, bins that live in an enclosed space with no airflow. These are the bins that most need cleaning and most often go without, because no single resident owns the problem. We work directly with building managers and strata committees.

Houses. Cremorne’s houses and semis often have narrow side access and bins kept close to the building — which is precisely where a smelling bin is most noticeable.

Collection starts at 4:30am. That is early enough that the bins genuinely have to go out the night before, which is why placement does real work in Cremorne.

What we do. We take the bins out the evening before and bring them back in once they have been emptied — nobody setting an alarm, and no bin missed.

Buildings. For unit blocks we work to the building’s collection days and return the bins to wherever they live, room or cage.

This catches new residents out constantly. North Sydney Council doesn’t supply a garden waste bin. If you want one, you buy your own 240-litre bin, and Council collects it — but only as a booked service, every second Monday, with bookings closing at 4pm the Sunday before.

That fortnightly-and-only-if-you-ask arrangement means garden waste sits around longer in Cremorne than in most of Sydney. Cremorne still has a good share of freestanding houses with real gardens behind the apartment blocks on Military Road, and a bin holding wet clippings for a fortnight in summer is a bin that needs cleaning, not just emptying.

Bulky household waste runs on the same second-Monday cycle and the same 4pm Sunday cut-off. A house gets 2 cubic metres per booking.

North Sydney’s exclusion list is longer than most and worth checking before you drag anything to the kerb. It won’t take e-waste, soil, stones, bricks, concrete or renovation debris, treated timber, pallets, paint, liquid waste, tyres, motor vehicle parts, hot water heaters, or baths, sinks, vanities, laundry tubs and toilets — the bathroom items surprise people mid-renovation.

Two more that catch people: bean bags are refused outright, because the beads scatter across the street when the truck compacts them, and glass over a metre — windows and large mirrors — isn’t accepted, though smaller pieces are if they’re wrapped and taped.

Mattresses and whitegoods are fine. Whitegoods need to be under 90kg with the door removed or tied shut.
