Houses. Mosman’s terrain is not flat. Steep driveways off Military Road, long shared drives, and homes where the bin store sits well below street level. Our crews handle the bins where they are — we don’t ask you to bring them up.

Units and strata buildings. Plenty of Mosman is unit blocks with shared bin rooms. Shared bins get heavier use and are cleaned less often than household bins, which is exactly why they need it more. We work with building managers and strata committees on scheduled cleans for whole bin rooms.

Zoned collection. Mosman collects Monday to Friday and the time varies through the day, so a bin wheeled out at seven in the morning can still be too late.

What we do. We take the bins to the kerb before collection and bring them back once they have been emptied. On a steep Mosman block it is often the more valuable of our two services.

Houses and buildings. Both — a single household, or every bin in a strata building, on the schedule that suits the property.

Mosman runs its household clean-ups on a scheduled cycle by zone rather than by booking. Every property gets two free collections a year, up to 5 cubic metres each — a more generous volume than most councils nearby. If you need one outside those dates, Council runs a pre-paid service that needs two working days’ notice and is capped at four per property per year.

The exclusion list is where clean-ups usually come unstuck. Council won’t take e-waste, hot water units, vegetation, building or demolition waste, bricks, concrete, tiles, car parts, tyres, or anything hazardous including asbestos. There are also physical limits: nothing over 30kg, and nothing with a dimension over 1.5 metres — which rules out a lot of full-size furniture.

One thing worth knowing, because it saves money: mattresses are accepted and recycled at no extra charge. Put them beside the pile rather than in it.

Mosman’s garden organics bin is collected once a month — far less often than the weekly recycling. Four weeks is long enough for clippings at the bottom of a bin to break down, go anaerobic and start smelling, and that residue stays after the bin is emptied. It’s the single most common reason people in Mosman book a clean.

If you have more than the bin holds, Council runs a pre-paid excess green waste service, capped at 5 cubic metres and twelve services a year. The presentation rules are strict and catch people out: bundles tied with natural string only — no plastic bags, no hessian bags, no cardboard boxes — with limbs under 1 metre and under 100mm thick, and 20kg per bundle.

Food scraps don’t go in the green bin. Mosman has no food organics collection, so food waste belongs in the red bin, and Council points residents to compost bins and worm farms instead.
