Bin Services for Schools & Childcare Centres

School bins fill fast, sit through long holidays, and are surrounded by children. That combination is why bin hygiene in a school is a health and presentation issue rather than a housekeeping one. Food waste from several hundred lunchboxes a day attracts pests, and a bin area near a playground is not a place you want them.

myBins provides scheduled bin cleaning, bin placement and rubbish removal for schools, preschools and childcare centres across Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Lower North Shore and Eastern Suburbs.

Why schools need a bin routine

  • Concentrated food waste. Lunch waste arrives in two short bursts a day, and it’s largely organic.
  • Pests near children. Cockroaches, flies and rodents follow residue in unwashed bins. Cleaning removes the food source; spraying only treats the symptom.
  • Long holiday closures. Bins that go into a six-week break dirty come out considerably worse.
  • Grounds staff are stretched. Bin duty competes with everything else on the list.
  • Parents notice. A bin area at the gate is part of a first impression at enrolment.

What we provide

Scheduled bin cleaning

High-pressure cleaning and sanitising after collection. Most schools we work with schedule a clean at the end of each term, plus a recurring cycle through the year.

End-of-term and holiday cleans

Timed for the last week of term, so bins aren’t sitting soiled through the break — the single most useful clean in a school calendar.

Bin placement

Bins to the kerb and back on collection day, so it isn’t added to a caretaker’s morning.

Rubbish removal

Classroom clear-outs, old furniture and equipment — bulky item removal and general rubbish.

Working on school sites

Our crews are uniformed and identifiable, and we schedule outside pick-up and drop-off where practical. If your site requires contractor induction or Working With Children checks, tell us during quoting and we’ll confirm what we can meet before you commit.

Canteen waste is the part that causes complaints

Classroom bins hold paper. Canteen and staffroom bins hold lunch, and that is a completely different problem.

The pattern is predictable across every school we service:

  • Food waste peaks at recess and lunch, then sits in a warm bin until the next collection. In Term 1 and Term 4 that is a Sydney summer bin holding food scraps.
  • Drink dregs are worse than food. Half-finished poppers and milk are what soak into the base of a bin and stay there long after the bin is emptied.
  • Yard bins get overfilled and knocked over, and once residue is on the ground around the bin, birds keep returning to the spot rather than the bin.
  • Holidays are the reset that never happens. A bin left dirty at the end of Term 4 sits closed through January.

Working around a school term, not a calendar month

Schools do not run on a steady 12-month cycle, so a fixed monthly schedule wastes visits in the holidays and under-services the busiest weeks.

What tends to work better:

  • A clean early in each term, so bins start fresh rather than carrying the previous term’s residue.
  • A reset over the summer break, which is the single most valuable visit of the year — bins are empty, the site is quiet, and there is time to do the bin store properly rather than just the bins.
  • Extra attention through Term 1 and Term 4, when heat does the most damage.

On site at a school

We work outside student movement times where a school prefers it, sign in through the office and follow whatever site induction applies, and can attend during pupil-free days or holidays if that suits better.

If your site requires Working With Children Checks, site inductions or any other clearance before contractors attend, tell us at quote stage rather than on the day and we will confirm what we can meet.

We invoice the school or the department directly, and can quote per campus for multi-site groups.

Where we service

Northern Beaches, North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Ku-ring-gai, Hornsby, Waverley, Woollahra, Randwick and the City of Sydney.
