Bin Services for Airbnb & Short-Term Rentals

Short-stay guests don’t know your bin day, and they’re gone before it arrives. That’s the whole problem in one sentence. Bins go out late or not at all, they overflow across a busy weekend, and the next guest arrives to a full bin and a smell — which is exactly the kind of thing that turns up in a review.

myBins manages bins for short-term rental owners and managers across Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Lower North Shore and Eastern Suburbs, so the bins are handled whether anyone’s staying or not.

Why short-stay properties struggle with bins

  • No one is there on collection day. Guests check out Sunday, collection is Tuesday, and the bin never reaches the kerb.
  • Guests don’t know the local rules. Collection day is set by address, not suburb, and most councils won’t take a bin with a propped lid.
  • Turnover concentrates waste. A weekend group generates more waste than a fortnight of ordinary living, all at once.
  • Bins left out for days. A neighbour complaint or a council issue you only hear about later.
  • It shows up in reviews. Cleanliness is scored, and a bin area is part of that.

What we do

Bin placement — out and back

We take the bins out before collection and bring them back after, every cycle, regardless of occupancy. Nothing depends on the guest.

Bin cleaning between stays

High-pressure cleaning and sanitising after collection. Worth scheduling into your changeover routine — particularly over summer, when a bin that held seafood shells for three days becomes very noticeable.

Rubbish removal

For the things guests leave behind that don’t fit a bin — bulky items and general rubbish.

How we work with hosts and managers

  • Recurring schedule matched to each property’s council collection day.
  • Multiple properties on one account — useful if you manage a portfolio across several suburbs.
  • No guest involvement required. Nothing to explain in your house manual.
  • Consolidated invoicing to the host or the managing agent.

The bin rules your guests will never read

Every council in Sydney sets its own presentation rules, and short-stay guests break them without ever knowing they exist. The fines land on the property, not the guest.

  • Woollahra — bins out the Sunday night before a scheduled collection, and Council states it plainly: not earlier and not later. Fines start at $320.
  • Northern Beaches — collection can happen any time between 6am and 6pm, so a bin put out after breakfast is a bin that gets missed for the week. Bins must be back in within 24 hours.
  • North Sydney — collection starts at 4:30am. There is no morning window at all; the bin goes out the night before or it does not go out.
  • Mosman — collection times vary through the day, and nothing placed beside a bin is collected.

A guest checking out on Sunday has no idea any of this applies, and the next guest arrives to a full bin.

Why short-stay bins behave differently to household bins

A family fills a bin steadily and puts it out because they will live with the consequences if they do not. A short-stay guest fills it in two days and leaves.

The result is a bin that runs full, sits warm through the gap between bookings, and then greets the next arrival — often with food waste in it that has been there since the previous stay. In a Sydney summer that is three or four days of warm organic waste in a sealed plastic container.

It also shows up in reviews. A cleaning score is one of the things guests rate, and bin smell at the front gate is noticed before anyone reaches the kitchen.

How we fit around turnovers

We schedule around collection days and changeover days rather than a fixed date, so bins are emptied and clean before the next arrival rather than after. For hosts running several properties we can work to one schedule across all of them and invoice centrally.

If a bin overflows between bookings, our Empty My Bins service clears it without waiting for the council cycle.
